Keeping grass too long could lead to fines.
Not pulling out that used tractor to take care of your lawn regularly? People who are lax in their grass care may face fines from their municipalities.
Recently, Kansas newspaper the Lawrence Journal-World noted that the city has sent out 426 notices to people in the city during the previous three months. Brian Jimenez is the city code manager for Lawrence and told the paper that problems with lawns tend to increase starting in April.
"It's a big seasonal violation," Jimenez said. "We get tons of complaints coming in."
Those who disregard the notice could see used tractors roll onto their property, as the city will contract to have their yard taken care of. That would cost a resident $40.
Of course, the simplest way to deal with the problem is for people to take care of their properties before grass and weeds get out of hand. Keeping a tractor deck low could help by reducing the frequency with which people have to cut the grass.
However, keeping blades too low could also hurt a lawn, as shorter grass may lead to dehydration.
